Young Gardener to Table Initiative
A wholistic approach to cultivating young gardeners in which the seed/seedling goes from the earth, to the harvest, to the kitchen to be cooked, and the table to become the meal celebrated together.
Students will be provided with their own raised bed, along with seeds/seedlings in our Kaleidoscope Community Garden. Our young gardeners will plant and tend vegetables and herbs that they will harvest and use in the recipes that we prepare/cook together to create a meal-and then eat together.
Our focus each Wednesday will be a blend of gardening and cooking. Our young gardeners will learn about planting, caring for a garden, nutrition, herbs and flavors, proper cutting of vegetables and kitchen safety, measurement in the kitchen, how to take a recipe and make substitutions to make it healthier, hands-on cooking and preparing a meal or snack, working together, and so much more!
This initiative is FREE to students, and includes all resources needed for the gardening and cooking experiences.
The Kaleidoscope Learning Center is thankful to several grant partners in providing for this initiative that cultivates a new generation of gardeners who care for the earth, discover the joy of planting and harvesting, fall in love with the art of cooking their harvest or the harvest of other local farmers, and develop a lifestyle perspective of gardening to the table with nutrition as a priority.
A limited amount of student spaces will be available, so be sure to register below today!
Communities We Are Focusing On Now

OUR Community Garden
Growing a Gardening Community
OUR FREE Community Garden is part of our grassroots Kaleidoscope Honolulu in our urban neighborhood. We anticipate so much "harvest" from it-including more food security and relationship building with our seniors, families, and youth living in high-rise homes around us, but it's much more than that!
Kaleidoscope Honolulu is an outreach of First Christian Church of Honolulu (DOC), and the community garden is located on the campus at: 1516 Kewalo St Honolulu, HI 96822
Raised gardening beds, with trellis, are 42 X 24 and about waist high. Bed/Dirt/Water are provided. Our raised beds are the "seeds" of a Gardening Community for our neighborhood...where gardeners can:
Grow vegetables and herbs
Gather to talk story-meet friends old and new
Learn about gardening as other gardeners/master gardeners share what they've learned
Nurture food health and wellness through special events,
trade plants and seeds, and more!
Think of it as the beginning of a big gardening family! We have special gardening speakers/events on Wednesdays from 10:30-12:30, and we will have some special gardening events/speakers on Saturdays TBA.
153 Cafe

Our Partners Grant Support
National Benevolent Association
Christian Church Disciples of Christ

We are thankful for our Grant Partner, National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. whose generous grant has made it possible to begin the grass roots movement Kaleidoscope Honolulu
Wondering why it's called 153 Cafe & Marketplace? It arose in our Small Worship Community from the scripture text: John 21
Just imagine the impact if we create 153 small communities- of all different kinds- that might bring all our unique lights together, creating new patterns of light that impact our urban neighborhood, and the lives of all ages and cultures, for the better!
